About me

I am a mother.

I am a mother. I am a wife.

I am me.

I have passion, I have spirit. I love laughter, I love friendships. I also love to feel free – the freedom of running through the open countryside, the sights and smells of nature, or a paddle board in the silence of the open sea.
I love food, really tasty naturally good food, and pizza too and lots of chocolate!
I love to laugh really loud and really hard.
I love cuddles and I love, love.
I love my children, I love my husband, I love my family, friends and I love my home.
I’m in love with nature and the world we have been blessed with.
I believe all we need to live and thrive is around us in the beauty of the sun, the life of the plants, the wonder of water, and the mystery of energy.
I love the freedom of travel, experiencing new places, witnessing new beauty and being inspired by new cultures.
I love to have crazy wild fun. I love staying out late (sometimes), dancing through the night to amazing music.
I also love cuddling up to my family, ignoring the rest of the world and talking small people chat. This is life. This is my life.

WHAT, GREEN TEA IS GOOD FOR YOU?

I’ve always grown up being astounded by how amazing (or not amazing) food can make you feel. I remember as a teen hearing how Green Tea had lots of amazing benefits and I just had to have it. I was in awe how food had these benefits. No one had ever taught me this before.

As a 20 something year old I was obsessed by food in the wrong way because I didn’t understand it, for me a low fat, low calorie diet was healthy, but why did I not feel healthy? Why did I lack energy, why did I feel low, why did I have breakouts, why was my weight never stable? Of course it can’t be the low fat diet foods, this is how we are taught to eat healthy, right?

It wasn’t until I stumbled upon a health magazine at a cafe in Ibiza, that I had my epiphany moment. Fat was good for you? Chocolate was in? There was a world of food with all these amazing health benefits that I had never even heard of! I had to learn more. This was the beginning of my journey as a practitioner, and the rest was history as they say.

Fast forward 5 years of study at The College of Naturopathic Medicine and two children later and I was a fully qualified practitioner.

HOW COME I ATE HEALTHY AND EXERCISED BUT MY BODY STILL LET ME DOWN?

Motherhood and children was a major learning curve for me as a practitioner. Firstly I wanted to nourish my body properly for my babies, then I wanted to give my children the best start in life with home cooked organic foods and breastfeeding. I never used any pharmaceutical interventions for my children and always opted for healing the body naturally through acute illness.
My children always came first, my husband didn’t always take to kindly to this, especially when they were taking over our bed every night, and he was banished to the spare room. I never slept properly through the night like all mothers, and nothing has really changed much today as now they won’t sleep alone without mummy. I would love to say I got it all right, but nope, I tried my best, but that’s okay, because all mothers are trying to do in the end is survive.

After the start I gave my children you would expect them to be the healthiest children around. I realised when my eldest was 2.5 this was not to be true. She contracted a food born illness, campylobacter and from then on things started to change. She started with eczema and digestive issues, including constipation.
I, myself, after a routine stool test, discovered I had high inflammation in my bowel in line with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohns, Colitis or worse still cancer!
For me, the stress of motherhood was a huge contributing factor to my flailing health. I even started to get panic attacks, and I was one of those individuals that thought I took stress on the chin. I was obviously absorbing this internally.
I started to take more of an in-depth look into my health which went beyond the kitchen & the supplement jar.

MY LIGHTBULB MOMENT

After much research I discovered the work by Dr.Kucera and HRV testing. As a scientist and paediatrician, Dr.Kucera was a wealth of knowledge. He, along with his business partner Sheri Dixon, specialise in a therapy regulating the autonomic nervous system. This was such an eye opener for me. If the body is stressed and in a Sympathetic dominance, it cannot heal, it cannot use food as nutrition, it cannot function optimally. The body needs to be in Parasympathetic dominance, otherwise known as Rest & Digest! Bingo, light bulb moment! After testing myself and my children, despite a healthy diet and exercise our bodies were so stressed out! (I now offer this test to every single one of my patients).

This was when I started to expand on my thoughts that diet and exercise were only a small part of healing, and the mind was so much more.
This was a large part of my learning journey as a practitioner.
Today my daughter is 7 and a different child from what she was then, she is amazing, and me, I constantly work on my health through the foods I eat and the exercise I take, but now also take care of my mind and I destress from life, taking time for me. I feel in the best health I have ever been.

Motherhood is the biggest life changer of all, it is easy to get caught up in the stress and put yourself last, but, as the glue that holds the family together, without you, they is no family. This is why I want to focus my efforts on helping women just like me, mums!

REST, DIGEST & HEAL

Through my life experiences, my training, and the many, many patients i’ve seen to date, have all helped shape the practitioner I am today. I am grateful for my journey, without it I wouldn’t be able to see what you need to thrive.

You need Rest, to Digest, so that you can Heal!
